Let's just say this together:

Dear Jesus,

If I am ever ever about to eat a shiitake mushroom, please come back right before it happens.

Amen

I looooove all types of mushroom - being claustrophobic I need much room.

So I set out to try some more mushrooms...after all, portabellos saved my sole...(actually i've never put those two together) So I see the shiitakes and I'm like, mmm, everybody cooks with those...I could be cool...so I saute them in a light oil (I usually treat all mushrooms to a bit of butter on their way out but i was without) and also some chicken boob, lotsa pepper...it looked wonderful on a bed of mescaline with red pepper as a garnish...but the taste mixed with the texture...never again...

I finished all of them and my meal and it was then it hit me...I really didn't like those...but the smell was on my hands and it made me feel sick and then all night until bedtime I tasted them every little while (the hotter peppers caused some air to be produced)

There was something particularly terrible about having all of them and then realising that it wasn't right...I felt betrayed by the shiitake I think.

I am truly sorry about your shitake's betrayal.... I know how that hurts I was betrayed not long ago by a pinapple and am still recovering.

Perhaps we should start a support group?
